When MerIT was founded in 1999, the aim was to create a sense of community within the industry, to get to know each other. But also for the public to become aware of an industry that employed over 2,000 people in 1999 and its importance to the region.

We feel we've come a long way. But we haven't reached the final destination yet.,
The IT industry is inexhaustible as more and more products contain IT solutions. And there will be more!

As we wrote in the invitation in 1999 ”IT is Skellefteå's fastest growing industry.”
There's nothing to say we have to change that wording, even though it's been nearly 20 years.

On the contrary – many companies have expanded, more companies, subsidiaries, etc. have been established, and new players have continued to emerge. And we believe and hope that this development will continue.

Isn't Skellefteå Norrland's IT centre?

In 1999, the MerIT Prize and Best IT Thesis were awarded for the first time.

In 2000, we decided to institute another prize, which we felt was lacking, namely IT Personality of the Year.

In 2005, for the first time, we combined our two major activities, Möjligheternas Dag (Day of Opportunities) and MerIT Gala.

It turned out to be a great success. Now students and companies could mingle with each other, create new contacts for their working lives, and meet new potential employees in a less formal setting.

And that concept still holds.
